Overview

With the warmth and attention of a family-run hotel, The Torridon is a favorite Scottish countryside retreat with something for everyone.

Outdoor pursuits are myriad, from clay pigeon shooting and archery to mountain biking at the foot of Liathach and kayaking in a magnificent sea loch. As the UK’s most northerly five-star hotel, the estate is remote enough for true respite, yet offers the contemporary creature comforts sophisticated travelers expect, from 18 luxurious guest rooms with views of the ever-changing highland scenery (and even the estate’s own cattle!) to an award-winning Whisky Bar, now with 100 Scottish gins including their own distilled Arcturus gin. The Torridon Hotel holds five red stars from the AA, and its 1887 Restaurant is the recipient of both a MICHELIN Star and a Green Star. This Western Highlands hotel delivers world-class Scottish hospitality in a breathtaking location just an hour from the Isle of Skye.

Rebecca Recommends Secrets

Their Highland Beef, local cheeses, and even raspberries are second to none – and their seafood is so fresh and plump that the majority is exported to Spain!  Enjoy a scrumptious burger with beef from their own Scottish Highland herd.

Take a scenic drive along Scotland’s own Route 66, the North Coast 500, which has gained global recognition. The most famous pass along the route is the Beallach Na Ba (pass of the Cattle) to Applecross.  The views are incredible, including the whole of Skye, much of Wester Ross, the Islands of Rum, and the Outer Hebrides.

For that extra little treat – book the hotel’s own Morgan Sports Car to zip along this spectacular route.

The area surrounding The Torridon is amongst the clearest locations on Earth so you can experience rich views of the Milky Way and thousands of naked-eye stars. Experience the night sky in all its glory with a little stargazing excursion in the surrounding highlands.

Take advantage of The Torridon’s very own activities team, you can choose from activities, such as sea kayaking, open canoeing, gorge scrambling, mountain biking, coasteering, or guided walks.  My favorite is an early morning kayaking adventure before the world wakes up.

Combination Stay/Why Visit?

Combine your stay with Aldourie Castle, just 69 miles away via a delightful scenic route through the Highlands of Scotland, taking in quaint Highland villages on the way.  The Torridon is situated in the area of Wester Ross in the North West Highlands, which offers breathtaking landscapes, secretive hill lochs, and mist-shrouded mountains with a vibrant culture stretching back thousands of years to the Neolithic ages. We can’t promise Braveheart, but do prepare yourself for some surprises.

How We Travel for Good

At The Torridon, we believe exceptional hospitality starts with taking care of the place we call home. On our rural 58-acre estate, family-owned by Dan and Rohaise Rose-Bristow, the landscape that surrounds us shapes everything we do – from the food we serve to the experiences we offer our guests.

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact, supporting our local community, and helping ensure this extraordinary landscape can be enjoyed for generations to come. Produce from our farm and two-acre kitchen garden features on our menus, we prioritise local and seasonal sourcing wherever possible, our water comes from an on-site borehole, food waste is composted on site, and we work hard to minimise our impact on the landscapes and ecosystems that make Torridon so special.

We monitor and continually improve our performance through EarthCheck and Relais & Châteaux MyImpact and are working towards net-zero emissions by 2040. We are equally passionate about supporting people and place. We work closely with local suppliers, growers, makers, and businesses, support charities including Hospitality Action and Room to Reward, and support programmes such as the UNESCO Wester Ross Biosphere that advocate for the wellbeing of people and place. Developing future talent is also important to us through apprenticeships, training, and long-term career opportunities, and we were proud to be recognized as Best Employer by the Scottish Thistle Awards in 2025.

We believe hospitality should play a positive role in the places where it operates. For us, that means caring for the landscapes, wildlife, and communities that make Torridon unique, while helping guests build a deeper connection with this extraordinary part of the Highlands.
